Off is the default: a wrong answer costs nothing and the level cannot be lost. Turn hearts on when they want the stakes — lose them all and the level restarts with its points cleared. Stars already banked are never touched, in any setting.
Let them pick their own. Dusk is the easiest on the eye for reading in the evening.
Most schools teach lowercase first, but plenty of children learn capitals at home. Match whichever they already know.
Tap one to hear it. Every device reads this differently — the same setting that sounds right on a phone can be very slow on a fridge or a TV, so this is saved per device rather than per player.
